Communicating Hydrocephalus, for common pathologies such as Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), post subarachnoid hemorrhage, meningitis or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) are treated with Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt placement using Antibiotic Impregnated Catheters and Programmable Valves. Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy (ETV) is done for cases of Obstructive Hydrocephalus, such as in Aqueductal Stenosis or Pineal Region or Tectal Tumors. The use of Antibiotic Impregnated shunt catheters has made a significant impact in decreasing the incidence of shunt infections. Also, the use of Programmable Valves has provided a very usefull noninvasive method of changing and adjusting valve pressures for optimal drainage rate.
